Museums of Tenerife

We are culture, we are life

Tenerife is home to a rich array of museums that invite you to explore its history, culture, and natural wonders. The Museum of Nature and Archaeology in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a cultural treasure that immerses you in the fascinating history of the island. Here, you can admire a wide variety of archaeological artifacts that belonged to the ancient Guanche inhabitants, discover their traditions, and learn more about their way of life. Additionally, the museum also features exhibitions highlighting the rich biodiversity of Tenerife and its unique natural environment.

In the city of La Laguna, you can’t miss the Museum of Science and the Cosmos, a fascinating space dedicated to scientific exploration and outreach. This interactive museum offers a wide range of exhibits that immerse you in the world of astronomy, physics, and technology. From hands-on experiments to planetarium projections, here you can satisfy your scientific curiosity in an entertaining and educational way.

Continuing in La Laguna, the Museum of History and Anthropology transports you through time to uncover the history and evolution of Tenerife. The exhibitions take you from the earliest settlements to the colonial era and the influence of navigation on the island.

In the town of Icod de los Vinos, you’ll find the Cueva del Viento, which was formed 27,000 years ago in basaltic lavas from the initial eruptive phase of the Pico Viejo volcano, located next to Mount Teide. This volcanic tube, named after the significant air currents that occur inside it, is the fifth longest in the world (with 18 kilometers surveyed), after the first four located on the main island of the Hawaiian archipelago (United States). It constitutes an enormous labyrinthine network of underground passages, with countless unexplored branches that will expand its length in the future.
